The DigiTech XSW Synth Wah Envelope Filter Pedal is a lot of things, however, subtle it is not. The Digitech X Series Synth Wah gives you heaps of tonal options. It comes with seven types of synth/wah/envelope filter sounds. The amount of sounds packed into such a small unit is incredible, and they can all be managed via the four control knobs, Mix/Level, Sensativity, Range and Type. The are two different outputs, Normal (or Dry) and Effect.
To be blunt, I wouldn't buy this one for the auto wah tones, although they are solid, they do sound heavily processed in my opinion. But then that is what the Synth Wah excels at, the trippy processed synth tones that will make you forget that you're even playing the guitar. Tweaking the envelope filter controls you'll be able to get in the ball park of Radiohead's Paranoid Android outro. If you want to get weird the XSW will take you there in no time. If you want to get a more traditional sound you may have a little more work ahead of you.
Guitarists known to have used the DigiTech XSW Synth Wah Envelope Filter Pedal include James Root of Slipknot and Stone Sour, Omar Rodríguez-López from the Mars Volta.
